Witch-ing Time

I was admiring a bear on eBay that was dressed as a witch when I realized – hey, I can make a witch!  So, I got some black sparkle felt at JoAnn’s and a bit of purple tulle.  I took the sweater and hat off my dark brown Whendi Bear and measured her head.  I looked around for something the right size to use as a template for the brim.  A luncheon sized plate (8 1/2″ in diameter) looked just right, so I traced it and cut it out.   I found something else to use for a template to cut out the center.  Then, I folded over a corner of the felt and figured out where to cut the cone shape so it would fit the hole.  I stitched it up, tied a length of purple tulle around it for a hat band and voila!  My Whendi Bear is now a witch!

I have made a pdf of the pattern so that you all can make witch hats!

Don’t sew? If you want to make one of heavy black paper, just make the brim’s seam allowance wider and cut notches in the seam allowance to make little tabs to glue the brim into the cone.

Another easy addition would be to make a coordinating neck ruff or just tie a bow around her neck using some seasonal themed ribbon .  There are lots of cool Halloween craft materials available right now, so have fun dressing your bears for the season!
